The UWI Mona Campus has advised that its Administrative Annex and Senate Buildings have been closed with immediate effect.

This as a leaked internal advisory issued today indicates that 6 members of staff within the building have tested positive for COVID-19.

The cases were reportedly confirmed today.

The document notes that the affected staff members have been sent home and the Ministry of Health and Wellness, supported by the Clinical Director will follow-up with contact tracing.

In the meantime, it says the building will be sanitized over the weekend to allow for return to normal operations on Monday.

The UWI says contact tracing by the Ministry will identify those contacts who need to be tested and quarantined.

It says those who are so identified will be advised.
Otherwise, it notes that staff members in the affected building are expected to return to work on Monday.
The University says it’s done a thorough assessment of each case and has taken all the necessary actions as outlined by health protocols to safeguard the health and well-being of its members.
It further notes that all customers who wish to conduct business at the Bursary Cashiers for the rest of today, would be directed to the Assembly Hall, where payment stations have been set up since last week.

The UWI says regular updates will be issued to keep the Campus Community abreast of any changes in operations on Campus.

It says circumstances that call for urgent action by the community will be communicated as those situations arise.

It says the public will be duly notified where such actions will affect service delivery to its customers.
The University’s urging its staff and customers to remain vigilant and stay safe as they navigate the challenges associated with COVID-19.
