Prime Minister Andrew Holness’ government is not able to grant permission for the full reopening of sports in the country until they are able to grab a hold of the current spike in COVID-19 cases.
The Prime Minister, who was addressing the nation yesterday from Jamaica House, says hope is not lost for the full return of sport, and he is urging patience.
Following the the backlash the authorities received for granting permission for the hosting of the Sigma Run, Prime Minister Holness was quick to point out that there was no favoritism or classism for the delay in giving approval for the league to start or several sporting competitions.
Chief among them the Jamaica Premier League.

Meanwhile Minister of Local Government, Desmond McKenzie, says there has not been any change to the government’s announcement that sporting bodies should apply for permission, but agrees with the Prime Minister that the recent spike in the positive COVID-19 cases has force them to take a closer look at each application.
