Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Labour, Collette Roberts Risden says none of the farm workers infected with COVID-19 in Canada are gravely ill.

Mrs. Roberts Risden gave the update on the ill Jamaicans while speaking with Nationwide News this morning.

Seventeen Jamaicans on the Greenhill farm have contracted the virus.

The Permanent Secretary says no Jamaicans on other farms have been infected.

Nearly 3 thousand Jamaicans are in Canada on the seasonal farm work programme.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Roberts Risden one of Jamaica’s liason officers will be checking on the conditions under which farm workers are living and working in Canada in light of COVID-19.

Mrs. Roberts Risden says the managers of farms in Canada have been complying with the guidelines issued by the Canadian Federal government.

he says some employers have even made arrangements for some of their workers to be accommodated in hotels in order to comply with the government’s guidelines.

She says the Federal government has also disbursed funding to farm workers to assist with social distancing.
