A district constable was remanded in custody after appearing before the court on Thursday to answer charges of stealing more than $400,000 from a facility operated by the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division, FNID.
Charged is 31-year-old Shaneek Plummer of Innswood Village, St. Catherine. Plummer is charged with simple larceny and possession of criminal property.
It’s reported that on Monday, a constable stationed at FNID temporarily left a bag containing over $650,000 in cash in his office to use the restroom.
When he returned, the constable discovered that a portion of the cash was missing. Supervisors were notified and an internal investigation was launched.
Plummer, who was assigned to FNID, was subsequently arrested at the compound after she was caught attempting to conceal the cash.
The funds were recovered and verified as the exact amount reported missing.
Plummer was charged after a file was prepared and submitted to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
She was granted bail in the sum of $500,000.
Plummer also has to surrender her travel documents and report to the Spanish Town police station three days per week.
