The Export Import Bank says export potential for Jamaican products to Cuba is being constrained by a lack of funding from the Finance Ministry.

Managing Director of the EXIM Bank, Lisa Bell, says due to the particularities of the Cuban market, a required credit system for Jamaican exports has already been exhausted.

Ms. Bell was speaking at last week’s sitting of Parliament’s Public Administration and Appropriations Committee, PAAC.

Previously, JAMPRO President, Diane Edwards told the PAAC that at least 8 entities have been accredited to export goods to Cuba.

However, Ms. Bell says a number of problems have arisen as result of tightening US trade restrictions being imposed on Cuba.

However, she says the Cuban market represents a lucrative opportunity for Jamaica.
