Acting-Permanent Secretary in the Education Ministry, Dr. Grace McLean, says a credit card which was issued to former Education Minister, Ruel Reid, was approved by the Finance Ministry.

Dr. McLean says the credit card was approved consistent with a Ministry of Finance circular which has been in existence for approximately 10 years.

The circular sets out guidelines and procedures for the use of credit cards to Ministers of Government, Permanent Secretaries and some other senior government officials.

Dr. McLean says systems are in place to account for how the credit cards which are sometimes issued to Government officials are used.

Dr. McLean was addressing a media conference at Jamaica House today.

The acting-Permanent Secretary said she’d have to research whether the credit card which was issued to Mr. Reid was used for the intended purposes.
