Tonia Williams has been chosen as the 2022 Rhodes Scholar for Jamaica.

The announcement was made yesterday from King’s House after a full day of interviews of eleven candidates vying for the scholarship.

Tonia Williams is a former student of Immaculate Conception High School.

She studied Psychology at Vassar University in the USA and is presently pursuing her Masters in Education degree at Harvard University.

Ms. Williams intends to study for a DPhil at Oxford University.

The new Rhodes Scholar-elect will be heading to Oxford University in October 2022 to join a cohort of more than 100 Scholars hailing from around the world.

She will be undertaking a fully-sponsored post-graduate studies and become part of a global community of people determined to make a positive difference in the world.

The Rhodes Scholarship is the world’s preeminent and oldest graduate fellowship, based at the University of Oxford since 1903.

The Scholarships for Jamaica began in 1904.

It has been awarded to one outstanding applicant each year.
