Nationwide News understands that founder of the ICWI Group, Dennis Hugh Lalor, is dead. He was 91.
Dennis Lalor was one of the giants of the Caribbean’s insurance industry.
He was a chartered insurer, who built the ICWI Group into one of the largest full-service financial institutions in the Caribbean, with operations in Jamaica and across the Caribbean.
A former chairman of Air Jamaica who oversaw the divestment of the airline, Lalor chaired the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Commission and Jamaica Racing Commission for 11 years. He also chaired the Casino Gaming Commission.
In 1990 he was appointed a member of the Privy Council of Jamaica and became of member of the Council of the University of the West Indies.
He served as president of the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica from 1990 to 1992.
An avid sportsman, who bred and owned numerous thoroughbred racehorses, Lalor captained Jamaica’s Polo team and was president of the Jamaica Polo club and Kingston Polo club.
He was conferred with the Order of Jamaica in 1994.
