Tourism Minister, Edmund Bartlett, says the government is working on expanding the tourism industry’s foothold in the United States, by reintroducing direct flights to Phoenix, Arizona.

United States Ambassador to Jamaica, Donald Tapia, expressed his commitment to ensuring Jamaica boosts it’s presence in the southwest of the US.

Meanwhile, Minister Bartlett, says Jamaica’s tourism sector continues to grow in the northeastern section of the United States.

Minister Bartlett says stop over arrivals from the US is also growing.

He was speaking at a reception to celebrate the return of American Airlines Service from John F Kennedy International Airport in New York to Sangster International Airport in St James, yesterday.

American Airlines Senior Regional Manager-Western Caribbean, Wellesley Joseph says during peak season, the airline will provide more than 100 weekly non-stop flights between Jamaica and Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, Miami, Philadelphia and New York.
