The government is to employ an additional 1,000 health workers across the island, as the nation grapples with managing the response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Health and Wellness Minister, Dr Christopher Tufton made the announcement while address medical personnel at the Annotto Bay Hospital in St Mary on Saturday.
He says several public health workers are being used in the field to conduct contact tracing and other activities to contain the spread of the virus.
He says based on assessments, some 1-million Jamaicans are projected to contract the virus.
But Dr Tufton says the government is focused on limiting the deaths.

The government placed the communities of Annotto Bay, Enfield and Dover, in St Mary under quarantine, on Thursday, noting that a majority of the COVID-19 cases in the parish were in those communities.
