The Holness administration will go ahead with issuing a new mobile spectrum license to Symbiote Investments, the operators of Caricel, despite a recommendation from the Office of the Contractor General not to do so.

The Prime Minister made the announcement in the House of Representatives this afternoon.

He says if the administration had decided to do otherwise it would have been a violation of natural justice.

The Prime Minister also signaled that changes are coming to how licenses are issued to telecommunications companies.

Mr. Holness says criteria must be set governing how companies qualify for consideration in the awarding of such licenses.

The OCG in a report to parliament had recommended that the government not issue a Domestic Mobile Spectrum License to the company and revoke the carrier license granted in May of this year.
