Speaker of the House of Representatives, Juliet Holness, is rejecting claims that she cut the microphones of Opposition MPs during Tuesday’s testy sitting of the Lower House.

She’s reacting to concerns raised by the opposition about the handling of their motion to censure the government.

Opposition Leader, Mark Golding, in a statement on Wednesday, questioned the fairness of his members being prevented from challenging the decision to close the debate on the motion to censure the government.

He also alleges that their microphones were switched off.

However, the House Speaker says the vote was carried out in accordance with the standing orders of parliament.

This follows what she says was already a great deal of latitude provided to the Opposition in taking the motion.
