The Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce, Anthony Hylton, says it was never the intention to allow open access to people’s private records on the N-SIPP registry.

Minister Hylton ordered that the website’s search feature be taken offline last week, after concerns that sensitive information such as individuals’ TRN numbers and bank records were being made public.

Speaking on Nationwide This Morning, the Minister said he was unaware that this was happening.

Minister Hylton says while the registry was created mainly for use by financial institutions, individuals may also have an interest in its use.

He declined to say how soon the registry will be back online.
