The Integrity Commission has clarified information contained in its annual report for 2023-24 which only made reference to two parliamentarians being under investigation for illicit enrichment for the period.
The IC now says the two is in addition to the six previously reported for the 2022-23 period.
This brings to eight, the total number of parliamentarians referred over allegations of illicit enrichment between April 2022 and March 2024.
The clarification was issued in the wake of stories published by Nationwide News and the Jamaica Gleaner, saying the so called ‘illicit Six’ was now the ‘Illicit Two’.
The Opposition People’s National Party has repeatedly criticised the Holness administration over the ‘Illicit Six’, saying all six parliamentarians belong to the governing Jamaica Labour Party.
The status of the probe into the now ‘Illicit Eight’ remain unclear.
The Integrity Commission maintains that it’s not legally empowered to say whether the cases are ongoing or have been closed.
