May Pen’s Mayor, Scean Barnswell, says the morale of police personnel in Clarendon has been severely affected by the work of the Independent Commission of Investigations, INDECOM.
His observation follows an upsurge in violence in the parish.
Clarendon was the centre of controversy in 2014 when it was alleged that a “Police Death Squad’ was operating in the parish.
INDECOM moved in swiftly and charged more than a dozen lawmen with being involved in extra judicial killings in the parish
Those policemen are alleged to have been responsible for more than 40 fatal shootings between 2009 and 2012.
Mayor Barnswell says none of the accused lawmen has been found guilty by the courts.
He says it’s clear to him that INDECOM’s investigations have had an effect on Policing in the parish.
Mayor Barnswell says something has to be done to lift the morale of law enforcement personnel in Clarendon.
According to Mayor Barnswell, Police personnel working in Clarendon have not been the same since the “Death Squad” probe.
