The Independent Commission of Investigations says it has begun investigations into an off-duty police fatal shooting of a man at a bar on Jarrett Street in Montego Bay, St. James yesterday.
The deceased has been identified as Kadmar Beadle.
The police reported that an off-duty police officer and another patron were involved in an altercation at a Bar.
During the altercation it is alleged that Mr. Beadle used a knife to inflict a wound to the abdomen of the officer.
Mr. Beadle was subsequently shot by the officer using his service pistol.
Both men were taken to the Cornwall Regional Hospital, where Mr. Beadle succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
The injured police officer remains hospitalised.
The service weapon of the police officer was recovered, processed and sealed by INDECOM for submission to the Government Forensic Laboratory.
The knife allegedly used during the altercation was not recovered during the processing of the incident scene.
Residents who had blocked the road at Hart Street said the fatal shooting of Mr. Beadle was carried out in circumstances which were unjustified.
INDECOM says it is encouraging persons to give them any photo or video of the incident.
It says the police officer involved in the incident will be required to provide a statement and attend the office of the Commission to be interviewed at an appropriate time.
