Health and Wellness Minister, Dr. Christopher Tufton says the Health Ministry is in dialogue with the Foreign Affairs Ministry about the possibility of acquiring a COVID-19 drug from Cuba.
But, the Health Minister says those discussions are in the embryonic stages.
The Cuban drug is known as Interferon alfa-2b.
It’s said to be successful in treating the deadly COVID-19 virus and has saved the lives of thousands in China.
Interferon isn’t a cure or a COVID-19 vaccine, but rather an antiviral that boosts the human immune system.
Meanwhile, the Health and Wellness Minister says Cuba is providing nurses to help Jamaica in it’s fight against COVID-19.
In the meantime, Dr. Tufton says Jamaica has the capacity to conduct the COVID-19 tests that are needed.
