Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett says Jamaica is likely to benefit from new US travel restrictions prohibiting direct cruising to Cuba, as cruise ships are re-routed to other destinations.

US President Donald Trump imposed the restrictions earlier this month.

Minster Bartlett says while the Caribbean is being used as an alternative route, it’s not to be interpreted as an advantage to Jamaica at the expense of Cuba.

He adds the region is highly dependent on tourism, and it is desireable that the routes remain in the Caribbean.
