Director of the Family Health Services in the Health and Wellness Ministry, Dr Melody Ennis, is imploring citizens to receive their second dose of vaccines once it is made available to them.
Dr Ennis says about 40 thousand doses of the 55 thousand AstraZeneca vaccines which arrived in the country on Monday will be reserved for individuals receiving their jabs in May.
Dr Ennis asserted that one dose of the vaccine will not be enough to protect citizens from contracting the virus.
She reiterated the need for all persons who have already been vaccinated to receive their second jab in order to be fully immunized against the virus.
Dr Ennis noted that discussions are already underway for Jamaica to possibly receive doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine from the US which announced plans to share 60 million doses to countries in need.
