The Jamaica Defence Force, JDF, is crediting a newly launched unit for the seizure of more than $1 billion worth of cocaine in St. Elizabeth last night.
In a statement today, the JDF says their maritime, air and cyber command, seized a vessel containing more than 2,000 pounds of cocaine.
The JDF says three people were detained during the seizure.
The people and the contraband were reportedly handed over to the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Narcotics Division for processing and investigation.
According to the JDF, the second district of the coast guard was launched two weeks ago.
In their statement, the JDF says the latest seizure is proof of concept and validation of the efforts of their members.
