The Jamaica Defence Force, JDF, says its Disaster Assistance Response Team, DART, will focus its efforts on Bahamas’ Abaco island.

Several people remain on the island, after hurricane Dorian caused destruction and more than 40 confirmed deaths in northern islands of the Bahamas last week.

The 120-member team departed Jamaica to the Bahamas on the weekend, to assist with disaster response efforts.

The DART team, will help with search and rescue as well as rebuilding efforts in the island chain.

Colonel General Staff of the JDF, Mahatma Williams, spoke with Nationwide News.

He says the team is also assisting with security.

He says the DART team is a standing arrangement the JDF developed since 2014.
