The Jamaica Medical Doctors Association, JMDA, says wage negotiations with the government have been delayed by an outstanding award from the Industrial Disputes Tribunal, IDT.

Newly-installed president, Dr. Jubilee Brown-Service was speaking with host Chevon Campbell during Nationwide at Five on Monday.

The JMDA says its members are becoming increasingly restive, five months after the IDT closed hearings in the doctors’ long-running dispute with the government.

The dispute involves pay rates and conditions of work tied to a contract that expired in 2021.

It also involves what the association describes as the unilateral denial by the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service, since 2023, of an allowance to more than 700 doctors.

The case wrapped up on April 1, 2026, after more than a year of proceedings with more than 50 sittings and the submission of more than 170 pieces of evidence.

Dr. Brown-Service is accusing the government of acting dishonourably in its dealings with the JMDA.
