Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Kamina Johnson Smith, is welcoming Jamaica’s election to two subsidiary bodies of the United Nations Economic and Social Council, ECOSOC.

Jamaica will serve as a member of the Commission on Population and Development for the term 2024 to 2028.

The country will also serve on the Executive Board of several agencies of the United Nations for the term 2024 to 2026.

The agencies include the United Nations Development Programme, United Nations Population Fund and United Nations Office for Project Services.

Minister Johnson Smith says Jamaica remains a strong advocate in developing solutions to challenges faced by the region.

On April 5, the UN’s Economic and Social Council filled vacancies in 14 subsidiary bodies through election by both acclamation and secret ballot and adopted four decisions pertaining to organizational matters.
