The Jamaica Public Service Company, JPS, now has until September 1 to start automatically compensating customers for breaches of the company’s guaranteed standards.

The Office of Utilities Regulation, OUR, had directed JPS to begin automatic compensation on June 1.

The directive means customers will no longer have to submit a claim form to be compensated. However, the JPS had appealed for more time to bring the measure into effect. As a result, the OUR has granted them an additional three months to make the changes.

The Guaranteed Standards are performance measures that guide the provision of utility services delivered by the JPS, the National Water Commission and small water providers.
