The Jamaica Public Service Company, JPS, is this afternoon warning customers not to engage in transaction with anyone who offers a 25-per cent discount on light bills.

This, as the company says it has been getting reports that unscrupulous persons are pretending to be employees of JPS while offering discounts to customers in exchange of paying their bills online with a credit card.

However, the Corporate Communications Officer at JPS, Audrey Williams, says it’s a scam.

She says the perpetrators pay the bill with a fraudulent credit card which bounces later leaving customers at risk of disconnection.

Ms. Williams is reminding customers never to hand cash to any employee of JPS unless it’s inside the Customer Service office.
