One week before the start of the new school year, there’s a plea for President of the Jamaica Teachers’ Association, Mark Malabver to not lead his members off the job, due to their wage dispute with the government.

The appeal comes from President of the National Parent Teacher Association of Jamaica, Stewart Jacobs.

The JTA and the Ministry of Finance are locked in negotiations over a new wage deal.

The teachers have said no to an offer by the government for a zero percent increase in year one followed by 2.5 percent for the next three years.

Amid the talks, the JTA boss says normalcy cannot be assumed for the start of the new school year.

Jacobs says cool heads are needed at this time.
