State Minister in the Labour Ministry, Zavia Mayne says a meeting is expected today with the management of the University of Technology, UTECH, and the Union representing the academic staff.

The academic staff have been on strike for the last eight days over outstanding retroactive salaries.

The Ministry of Labour’s intervention follows the academic staff’s rejection of an immediate offer that was made last week.

Last Thursday, Acting Education Minister, Karl Samuda said the government and the school’s management would be able to offer the academic staff half of what was due to them in October.

He says the matter will have to be referred to the Industrial Disputes Tribunal if it can’t be resolved by the Labour Ministry.
