Several communities in South East St. Mary continue to be impacted by severe landslides caused by the recent heavy rains.
Residents in the constituency have voiced discontent after mudslides blocked some areas including the Broadgate main road.
The road blocks have forced motorists to find alternative routes and caused major traffic delays on the route between Kingston and St. Mary.
The National Works Agency, NWA, says efforts have begun to remove the landslides.
However, People’s National Party caretaker for South East St. Mary, Christopher Brown, says he’s frustrated by the lack of timely road maintenance.
He says it’s unfortunate that only during an election cycle, plans are announced to repair roads that have long been in deplorable condition.
Brown says while Broadgate has gained recent media attention, several other communities also suffer from worsening road conditions.
He notes that residents face rising transportation costs as vehicle operators have to contend with increased maintenance expenses.
Brown is calling on the local authorities, including Member of Parliament Norman Dunn, to prioritise the road repairs.
