Stop politicizing the fight against COVID-19, that’s the plea from Director-General of the World Health Organization, WHO, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus
He made the call yesterday during a digital media briefing on efforts to curb the global spread of the deadly virus.
His appeal to world leaders comes after Dr. Tedros was asked to respond to a threat by US President Donald Trump, yesterday to cut funds to the global health body.
It was an indirect response but his message was clear, politicizing the virus is not the cure.
Dr Tedros suggests unity and honesty among leaders is crucial if the world is to overcome the unpredictable virus.
More than 60 thousand people have died from the virus and more than 1 million others have been infected.
Dr Tedros says the work of the WHO in combating the coronavirus will continue.
He also notes that tomorrow marks the first 100 days since the WHO was officially made aware of the virus.
