Local Government Minister, Desmond McKenzie, has ordered Spanish Town Mayor, Norman Scott, to prepare and submit a full report by the end of the day on an controversial incident in which municipal police destroyed a vendor’s handcart in Linstead, St Catherine.
The incident was captured on camera and circulated on social media.
The video shows members of the municipal police using a sledge hammer to destroy a vendor’s handcart.
Minister McKenzie says he has demanded that the municipal police officers be suspended until a probe into the incident is complete.
Minister McKenzie says he’s also apologized to the vendors and has advised them about where to seek compensation.

Yesterday, Mayor Scott denounced the incident and promised an immediate investigation.
In a Facebook post, Mayor Scott said he has already requested a detailed report on the incident from the municipal police.
And, the Spanish Town Mayor says he has also invited the vendors to a meeting at the earliest possible time.
