The police have arrested a man in connection with an attack on two Cuban nurses in Portland today.

The nurses were attached to the Buff Bay Community Hospital.

Police reports say the nurses were attacked and injured by a gunman while at their residence this morning and are currently receiving treatment.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Health, Fenton Ferguson is condeming a attack.

Dr Ferguson said it was “a disgusting and vicious act undertaken by a coward.”

And, the Member of Parliament for West Portland, Daryl Vaz, has congratulated the Police for the swift apprehension of a suspect in the assault.

He says he hopes the incident would not hurt the various health programmes between Jamaica and Cuba.

Mr. Vaz has also called on the Commissioner of Police, Dr Carl Williams, to take urgent action to stem what he called “the rise” of sexual offences in Portland and St Mary.
