Manager of Commercial Business and Marketing at MBJ Airports, Sharon Hislop-Holt says she’s confident that tourist arrivals will increase significantly by December.

Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett says about one thousand tourists have arrived in Jamaica since the reopening of the borders on Monday.

He says they expect about 9-thousand visitors within the next two weeks.

Mrs Hislop-Holt says her organisation and other stakeholders are collaborating to market Jamaica as a safe destination despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the meantime, Travel Consultant at MJ Travel Group, Kadia Darby, says the pandemic has negatively impacted the nation’s effort to receive 5-million visitors this year.

And she says many tourists are eager to travel now, to ease anxieties over the COVID-19 crisis.
