Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness should apologise to the residents of Coopers Pen in Trelawny, given the perception surrounding the extent of state resources deployed during the demolition of their homes.
That’s the view of the People’s National Party, PNP Constituency Chairman for North Trelawny, Dennis Meadows.
National Security, Minister Dr Horace Chang, said the police were duty-bound to assist the property owners in executing the court-ordered demolition.
But several men from the area alleged that the police forcibly entered their homes before the demolition and detained them for several hours while it was being carried out.
Nine of the men have since filed a lawsuit against the government for breaches of their constitutional rights.
Meadows believes an apology could ease tensions among the affected residents.
