“Let’s work together!”
That’s the message from the new Minister of Education, Dr. Dana Morris Dixon, to the country’s teachers and stakeholders in education.
Prime Minister Andrew Holness announced her appointment at Wednesday’s post-cabinet media briefing.

Dr. Dana Morris Dixon was sworn in as a government senator on May 12, 2023. Since then, she’s taken on numerous governmental responsibilities.
Dr. Morris Dixon was first appointed minister without portfolio with responsibility for skills and digital transformation in the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation on May 22, 2023.
Almost a year later, she was also assigned the information portfolio, taking over responsibilities from Robert Morgan.
Wednesday, October 30, 2024, saw Dr. Morris Dixon elevated to Minister of Education, replacing Fayval Williams, who will now assume the responsibilities of the finance ministry following the resignation of Dr. Nigel Clarke.
Minister Morrison Dixon also retains the information, skills, and digital transformation portfolios.
Speaking with Nationwide News shortly after the announcement, Dr. Morris Dixon urged the nation’s teachers and educational stakeholders to work alongside her to transform the sector.
Dr. Morris Dixon says while she was surprised by her appointment as minister of education, her experiences in the sector will guide her.
And Dr. Morris Dixon says her relationship with the HEART/NSTA Trust should strengthen as she takes up the responsibility of the education ministry.
