Education minister, Senator Dr. Dana Morris Dixon, says she is elated by water minister, Matthew Samuda’s, announcement that schools will be among facilities prioritised during drought mitigation efforts.
Minister Samuda announced that $150 million will be allocated to the National Water Commission to strengthen its capacity to truck water to schools and other state-run facilities.
Minister Morris Dixon was speaking during a handover ceremony of an upgraded classroom at the Mico CARE College on Tuesday afternoon.
The upgraded classroom was the result of a joint partnership of the Jamaica Social Investment Fund and the Caribbean Development Bank’s Basic Needs Trust Fund.
She told both entities that disasters such as these highlight the need for water resilience measures in schools islandwide.
