Member of Parliament for South West St. Elizabeth, Floyd Green, says residents of the community of Parottee have been properly consulted about the government’s voluntary relocation plans for the fishing community.
Green was responding to comments from Opposition Leader Mark Golding.
Mahiri Stewart reports.
The Parottee fishing community located on the outskirts of Black River suffered extensive damage during Hurricane Melissa last October.
The residents lost homes and businesses in floodwaters.
Last Tuesday, Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness announced that the National Reconstruction and Resilience Authority will fast-track the construction of 100 prefabricated homes in Luana in the parish to facilitate vulnerable Parottee residents who want to relocate.
While on a recent tour of St. Elizabeth, Opposition Leader Mark Golding visited Parottee and cautioned residents to seek legal advice before rushing into any agreement under the government’s proposed relocation arrangements.
South West St. Elizabeth, MP, Floyd Green, says it’s good to know that the opposition leader has finally sought to engage with the Parottee residents.
He reminded Golding that the relocation offer is voluntary.
Green says completing the houses for the relocation project remains a priority in his constituency.
