Murders are down by nearly 36 percent since the start of the year.
That’s according to the latest statistics from the Jamaica Constabulary Force, JCF.
The JCF’s crime data show that 191 homicides had been committed across the island up to April 5.
That’s 107 fewer than the 298 murders recorded in the corresponding period last year.
The figure represents a 35.9 percent decline in homicides.
Meanwhile, shootings have declined by 26 percent, coming in at 209 up to April 5.
Rape is down by 57 percent while robberies declined by 7 percent.
However, the JCF says break-ins have increased by 26 percent, coming in at 296.
In his weekly address to the organisation in the Force Orders, Police Commissioner, Dr. Kevin Blake revealed that Jamaica recorded the lowest number of murders in more than 25 years.
He highlighted that the first quarter of 2025 marks the sixth consecutive quarter in which murders have declined.
Commissioner Blake also noted that the first quarter also saw the most significant drop in major crimes since 2001.
According to Dr. Blake, the reduction is a result of continued investment in intelligence-led policing, technological upgrades, and strategic partnerships.
