Executive Director of the National Solid Waste Management Authority, NSWMA, Audley Gordon, says the existing fines for littering aren’t a deterrent to those who litter.
According to the NSWMA boss, after more than two decades, the regulations needed to empower the National Solid Waste Management Act are yet to be enacted.
Mr Gordon says the country’s approach to solid waste management needs to be overhauled.
Mr Gordon is also advancing that solving Jamaica’s solid waste management problem would require a cultural shift.
He’s emphasizing the need for public education as a part of the process to ensure change.
