Employees from the National Water Commission, NWC, had to be escorted by police after coming under attack from residents of Jew Hill Hanover on Wednesday, March 22.
In a statement Friday, the NWC says the workers went to the area to carry out disconnections.
Reports say people in the area hurled threats at the workers barricaded the main entrance to the community with burning tyres. The NWC says these actions prevented the workers from executing their plan to remove illegal supplies.
Reports say the actions by the residents also stopped the workers from leaving.
The NWC’s Regional Manager for Hanover, Jeffrey Smith says the incident is unacceptable and warns residents that it is against the law to trespass on company’s network.
