Opposition Spokesman on Health and Wellness, Dr. Morais Guy, says the government should insist on the wearing of masks in-doors as the country’s COVID-19 cases continue to rise.

He says this should be emphasised even though the mask mandate has been lifted.

Dr. Guy says while the government may not need to take any drastic measures to control the spike, the administration should encourage mask-wearing and other measures to limit the spread of the virus.

Jamaica’s COVID-19 positivity rate climbed to nearly 24% yesterday.

This is up from 18% on Sunday.

Despite the increase in cases hospitalisation remains relatively low.

Dr. Guy told our news centre the spike in cases was expected.
