The Opposition People’s National Party, PNP, has confirmed that party leader Dr Peter Phillips, is battling stage three colon cancer.

There has been speculation over Dr Phillips’ health since the party revealed that he was undergoing a medical procedure two weeks ago.

In a statement today, the PNP said the officers of the party were briefed about Dr Phillips’ diagnosis of  stage three ‘curable’ colon cancer.

In a video recording obtained by Nationwide News, Dr Phillips addressed his health status.

Dr Phillips also expressed gratitude to the medical staff at the University Hospital of the West Indies.

The PNP says a medical team including the University Hospital of the West Indies, Professor Terrence Forrester, and Consultant Surgeon, Dr. Mark Newnham, completed evaluations and diagnosed him with stage three colon cancer.

It says Dr. Phillips underwent complete and successful surgical removal of the cancer on March 23 and is now recovering comfortably at home.

According to the PNP, Dr. Phillips will need further preventative treatment in the form of chemotherapy over the next few months, as an outpatient.

But, it says he’ll continue his public duties.

According to the PNP, Dr. Phillips’ medical and surgical teams are optimistic that the cancer will go in complete remission based on their worldwide experience of managing this stage of colon cancer.

It says the Opposition Leader will remain on leave for the next two weeks.
