Parliament’s Public Administration and Appropriations Committee says it will call the Education Ministry to answer questions about consultants being hired at agencies associated with the Ministry.

Former Education Minister, Ruel Reid was sacked last week after allegations of corruption and nepotism came to light. Mr. Reid also resigned from his post as a Senator.

Former Jamaica Labour Party, JLP, Caretaker for North West St. Ann, Othneil Lawrence, is also under scrutiny after it was revealed he was appointed a consultant to the President of the Caribbean Maritime University, Professor Fritz Pinnock.

Mr. Lawrence was reportedly given the consultancy around the time, he withdrew his interest in being the Caretaker for the constituency — paving the way for Mr. Reid to take the position.

PAAC Chairman, Dr. Wykeham McNeill, says given the revelations of the previous week, the Education Ministry should appear before the committee to answer questions.
