There are no known cases of the Monkeypox virus in the Caribbean region to date.

That’s according to Country Representative to Jamaica for the Pan American Health Organization PAHO, Ian Stein.

Stein was speaking this afternoon during a webinar on the virus, put on by the Ministry of Health and Wellness.

However, he says surveillance of the global outbreak of the Monkeypox virus is ongoing.

Ninety-two cases of the virus have now been identified in 12 countries.

Stein says more awareness of the spread of the disease is needed.

He says healthcare workers remain at the greatest risk of contracting the virus.
