Education minister, Senator Dr. Dana Morris Dixon, says parents should not be forced to buy uniforms from schools.

The minister was responding to a caller on OPM on Air on Cliff Hughes Online on Tuesday.

The caller said a secondary school in St. Catherine was requiring parents to purchase uniform shirts with crests directly from the institution.

The caller added that the price of one shirt was $3,000, a sum she says is almost the same price for a full suit outside.

The minister says while she understands schools that attempt to generate their own revenue, mandatory uniforms sale should not be included in the strategy.
