The results of the US midterm elections on Tuesday will not undermine the working relationship between Port-of-Spain and Washington.
This, according to Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar.
The Democrats won control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate in Tuesday’s polls, in a major electoral rebuke of the Republican administration.
But according to Guardian Media, Persad-Bissessar says the outcome was predictable, arguing that midterm elections have historically presented challenges for the incumbent party.
She says the US and Trinidadian governments will continue working together as normal.
Acting Foreign Affairs Minister, Barry Padarath, is also dismissing concerns over the political shift in Washington.
