Member of Parliament for East Central St. Andrew and former PNP Campaign Director, Dr. Peter Phillips, says he’s embarrassed about the current state of the party.
Dr. Phillips’ comments come as the misappropriation of campaign funds scandal enters its second week in the public domain.
Addressed a meeting of the party’s powerful region 3 yesterday, Phillips, who’s Opposition Spokesman on Finance, chided comrades who he alleges leaked PNP internal business.
On Monday last week Nationwide News disclosed contents of an explosive report prepared by PNP Treasurer Norman Horne where he accused senior members of the party of not accounting for significant sums they collected on behalf of the PNP.
Among those accused by Mr. Horne are ex-Cabinet Ministers in the former-Simpson Miller-administration.
Our sources say the scandal could deepen in the coming weeks with additional high ranking members of the PNP being implicated.
Peter David Phillips was PNP Campaign Director into the party’s unsuccessful bid earlier this year for a second term.
Dr. Phillips addressed a meeting at the Jamaica Conference Center in Down Kingston on Sunday.
As several comrades in Regional Chairman, Phillip Paulwell looked-on, Dr. Phillips said he’s pained and embarrassed about the current state of the PNP.
Phillips said he’s taken not of reports in the media about the campaign financing scandal.
He demanded that persons leaking details of PNP meetings immediately stop.
Testy exchanges during recent meetings of the PNP National Executive Council, NEC, have been reported by our news center.
Dr. Phillips is angry.
