The Jamaica Environment Trust, JET, says plastic bottles are still the number one collected item in the recent International Coastal Cleanup Day, ICCD.

Data are still being tallied to accurately report on the impact of the intervention across the island.

Head of JET, Tamoy Singh Clarke, says data from the Go-Kart Track site, the largest in the island, show that fewer bags of waste were collected this year in comparison to last year.

She says this year they collected 3047 bags against last years 4604.

Results from ICCD and other similar global cleanup initiatives have been a vital tool in developing national policies.
