Prime Minister Andrew Holness has once again come to the defense of the National Housing Trust, NHT.
Speaking at a handing over ceremony of units in Twickenham Glades, St. Catherine yesterday, the prime minister reiterated that the Trust is fulfilling its original mandate for accessible housing.
Mr. Holness noted that several housing units involving the NHT have been heavily subsidised in its market price to accommodate the average earning Jamaican.
He says while Ruthven Towers will not be subsidised, the money collected will be used to create more housing projects.
The Ruthven Towers made national headlines last month when the costs of the apartments were leaked. One of the single units, a one bedroom apartment is listed for upwards of $20 million.
Mr. Holness says backlash on the housing project has been made without context.
