The Opposition People’s National Party, PNP is expressing dissatisfaction with a move by St Ann Mayor Michael Belnavis to resign the post.

Mr Belnavis reportedly resigned on Friday, after he was engulfed in mounting controversies at the St Ann Municipal Corporation.

He’s accused of using the corporation’s financial resources to build an electric charging port for his personal Porshe motorcar and building a personal property of government lands without approval.

Last evening Local government Minister Desmond McKenzie told Nationwide News that’s yet to receive a resignation letter from Mr Belnavis.

Opposition Spokesman on Local Government Natalie Neita wants Mr Belnavis to demit both the post as Mayor and Councillor of Ocho Rios.

She says it’s important that public officials adhere to necessary standards to build public trust.

Several calls to Mr Belnavis yesterday went unanswered.
