Opposition Spokesperson on Health and Wellness, Dr. Alfred Dawes, says there needs to be more cancer screenings in order to tackle rising cases of the disease in the island.
Dr. Dawes made the call at a media briefing at People’s National Party headquarters in St. Andrew on Monday afternoon.

Dr. Alfred Dawes believes the rising number of Jamaicans with cancer can be lowered with better screening practices. He pointed to colon cancer as one type of the disease where screening is low.
Dr. Dawes also highlighted breast cancer. According to him, there are only two working mammogram machines in the public health system.
Dr. Dawes says a national screening programme is the solution to the rising cases of cancer in Jamaica. He wants to see more money put towards primary care as opposed to public relations campaigns.
